Percy French is acknowledged as one of Ireland's greatest songwriters and entertainers.

Every Irishman and many others from the wider world are well acquainted with such songs as 'The Mountains of Mourne', 'Phil the Fluter's Ball' and 'Slattery's Mounted Fut' - not to mention his gentle satire 'The West Clare Railway' and the immortal refrain 'Come Back Paddy Reilly to Ballyjamesduff'.

Song writing was, however merely one of a renaissance style variety of talents which included watercolour painting, journalism, writing sketches, verse and monologues as well as the all embracing one of entertaining from stage and platform - the last named including comic drawings and his lifelong love of playing the banjo.
